My connection to Kinloch

My parents first bought me to Kinloch at Christmas 1956 aged 6 weeks to visit Ian and Ann Gibbs living in the only house at the time at the then end of Nisbet Tce.

I have holidayed here ever since, with the family home completed in early 1965 and spending school holidays working on both Seven Oakes and Kinloch Stations.

In 1975/76 I live here working at Seven Oakes. I have owned my own holiday home in Candu Lane since 1986 which my daughters now enjoy and a little over a decade ago shifted to Lisland Drive.

I was a member of the Kinloch Fishing Boating a Ratepayers Association and a founding member of the Kinloch Country Club now known as the Kinloch Community Association.

I was a director of Kinloch Marina for 25 years and Chairman for 16 years and oversaw the redevelopment of the marina in 2007.

Kinloch is in my blood; I love the place and all that it offers.

Background.

Roger Holyoake was my farming mentor and after working for him I completed a Diploma in Agriculture as Massey University. I later completed an MBA from Massey University.

I farm an Angus Stud in Otorohanga and have been very involved in agricultural activities since 1991. Firstly, on the Deer Farmers Association, then Meat and Wool Board’s Electoral Collage. This followed with 9 years on the NZ Meat Board.

Since then I have been heavily involved in the Angus breed with 9 years on the Angus NZ Board including 2 and half as President. I was Chairman of AngusPure Ltd for 18 years and presently Chair of AngusPRO and Secretary General of the World Angus Secretariat.

I am also a director of the family sporting good business, Brittain Wynyard & Co Ltd.

 Key Issues

The Council Long Term Plan which is put in place in the middle of this year is an immediate key focus for the kCA, how does the community want to see Kinloch develop further? It is important that the community through the KCA has input into the planning for a growing village. We need to make sure that provision is made for necessary resources.

Enhancing our duals like the Stream Tracks and other improvements to the village.

Building on our membership and the community and what we provide for you. This includes growing and developing new events and activities.

Upgrading the security systems in the village to take advantage of new technologies.
